Yes, your ex-partner will typically have their own Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM).

Each party attends a separate MIAM to ensure they have the opportunity to discuss their situation privately with the mediator. During their MIAM, your ex-partner will also receive information about mediation, how it works, and whether it is suitable for your specific circumstances. This separate meeting allows the mediator to understand each party's perspective and assess if mediation is appropriate for both of you.

After both parties have attended their individual MIAMs, if mediation is deemed suitable, you may then proceed to joint mediation sessions to work through your issues together.

The number of mediation sessions you will need depends on the complexity of your situation and the number of issues you need to resolve. Typically, most couples require between 2 to 4 sessions to reach an agreement. Each session usually lasts about 1 to 2 hours.

1. Online Mediation: Many clients choose to have their sessions online via video conferencing platforms. This option offers flexibility, allowing you to participate from the comfort of your own home or any location that is convenient for you. It also eliminates the need for travel and can be more comfortable if you and your ex-partner prefer not to meet face-to-face.

2. In-Person Mediation: If you prefer face-to-face mediation, sessions can be held at our offices. From 2024, we will be based at our new offices at Rowe House in Saffron Walden. This provides a neutral, professional, and confidential setting for discussions.

Your mediator will discuss these options with you during your initial Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) and arrange a setting that works best for both parties.
